Father says his daughter was the target of a sex offender
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man was just hoping for a fun family night out. He says instead his 11-year-old daughter was the target of a sex offender at a Wilmington business.
According to The Boardwalk on Front’s Facebook page, the founders want to create a place for anyone and everyone to hang out, party, and play the full arcade. That is exactly what a man, who asked not to be identified to protect his family, expected last Friday evening when he brought his family to The Boardwalk on Front Downtown. He says an employee approached his daughter while she was playing in the arcade. He asked if he could be her friend on Facebook. That man, Sean Joseph Paez, is a registered sex offender convicted of indecent liberties with a minor in 2006, according to the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry.
“I found it kind of odd for a grown man to be asking an 11-year-old child about her Facebook, so that is what got me curious,” said the father. “I contacted the general manager, and he acted like it was none of my business. So I looked into it a little more deeper. That is when I found out he is a sex offender.”
Friday afternoon, the general manager of The Boardwalk on Front said he did not know Paez is a registered sex offender. A Sheriff’s Office spokesman says as a registered sex offender, it’s OK for Paez to work at the restaurant, but cannot have a Facebook page. We found his, though.
