DSS investigates after road rage suspects surrender

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Deputies say the suspects in a road rage incident that led to a fight and shooting Sunday in Carteret County turned themselves in last night.. Now the victims are speaking out.

Today we learned one of the suspects has been charged before, and the Department of Social Services is getting involved.

Bradley Turner is charged with discharging a weapon into property, two counts of assault by pointing a gun, going armed to the terror of the people, injury to personal property and assault. His wife Christy is charged with two counts of assault by pointing a gun.

The victims say they tried to lose the Turners for 40 minutes. They say their fight with Bradley was self defense and they did not know the Turners had a child in the car.

“The first time I looked up, honestly that’s when I saw the kids in the car,” Nathan Brotzman said. “That’s the only reason I didn’t keep kicking. That’s the only reason I kind of looked up to see what she was doing, because I looked up and saw the kid’s face just staring at me, crying for their dad.”

The child was not hurt, but DSS is looking into what happened.

The driver of the truck, Josh Berry, says Bradley Turner left after firing the first round and came back minutes later shooting his truck, which was unoccupied at the time.

Deputies say Turner was previously arrested for assault and trespassing charges, which were later dropped. He is due in court tomorrow on his new charges.
