FIRST ON 3: 18-wheeler nearly hits man, continues driving
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police are looking for the driver of an 18-wheeler who ran his truck through power lines at an auto shop, nearly hitting the shop’s owner, and then continued driving.
It happened just after 8 a.m. at 2002 Princes Place Drive, near 23rd Street in Wilmington.
According to the owner of Atlantic Auto Service, Inc., the 18-wheeler was attempting to make a U-turn in the lot when he realized the truck was going to hit the low power lines there.
The owner says he ran after the tractor trailer to prevent him from hitting them, but the driver kept going, ripping the lines off the side of his building, and ultimately splitting the lines.
That’s when the owner says he had to jump out of the way of the truck, so he wouldn’t get hit.
Wilmington police and fire crews responded to the scene, and officers pursued the truck driver, who a bystander says kept going down Princess Place Dr., taking a left turn onto 23rd Street.
No word on whether police have located the driver, but stay with WWAY for the latest information as it becomes available.
