Residents return home after gas leak on 6th Street
WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — Residents have been allowed back in their homes after a gas leak at 919 S. 6th Street, according to the Wilmington Fire Department.
WFD says all blocked streets have been reopened after Piedmont Gas crews secured the 3/4-inch line after to a home. During the work, crews blocked off 900 and 1000 block of 6th Street and the 500 block of Wright Street forcing the evacuation of several homes.
The fire department says CFPUA workers cut the line accidentally while installing a water line. A WFD investigator determined workers were digging within the area that they were supposed to be according to ground markings. No fines will be issued.
