Commissioners vote to censure Berger; Start amotion process
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY / NEWS RELEASE) — During their April 22 meeting, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution censuring Commissioner Brian Berger.
In addition to the censure, the Board adopted a resolution authorizing the issuance of a petition in amotion to remove Brian Berger from the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners; service of a notice of hearing; and adoption of a revised amotion hearing rules and procedures.
Commissioner Berger was served with a copy of the petition shortly after the resolution was adopted. The hearing is scheduled for May 20, 2013 and is expected to take place during or immediately following the regular meeting.
Berger issued a statement this afternoon saying, “I contest the introduction of the resolution censuring me, New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger. I refute the misleading and false allegations contained in the document.”
Berger voted against the censure motion, but didn’t say anything before the vote.
Since the amotion is a quasi-judicial process, inquiries and petition inspection requests should be routed through the County’s public affairs office.
