McIntyre, Hagan, Burr to attend VA clinic opening; Hagan joins push to end VA backlog
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tomorrow’s ribbon cutting for Wilmington’s VA Super Clinic is bringing out some big names.
The facility, which opened this spring at Wilmington International Airport, will provide veterans services including day surgery, mental health, cardiology, women’s health and MRIs.
Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-7th District), Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) and Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) are among the dignitaries scheduled to attend the event tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill Sen. Hagan has joined 66 of her Senate colleagues in pushing president Obama to end a backlog of VA disability claims.
In a letter to the president, the senators from both sides of the aisle say more than 600,000 veterans are stuck in the backlog. They say in the last four years, the number of claims pending for more than a year has grown 2,000 percent despite a 40-percent increase in VA funding.
