VA officially opens long-awaited superclinic in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today was the grand opening for the long-awaited VA regional superclinic.
The 80,000 square foot facility will allow veterans to receive a new array of services, including day surgery, mental health, cardiology and MRIs.
It will also reduce their travel time, because the won’t have to make the 190-mile round trip to the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville.
With almost one million veterans in North Carolina, Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-7th District) says this is a day he has been waiting on for a long time.
“This is the first of its kind in North Carolina,” McIntyre said. “We are looking for others to hopefully be built in North Carolina, but Wilmington is first. Southeastern North Carolina is first in getting this, because we have been working on it for over a decade.”
McIntyre says there is a great need to serve veterans in our area, and that he is committed to continuing to meet that need.
