Man accused in father’s stabbing death denied bond
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A judge has denied bond for a Wilmington man facing a first-degree murder charge after he was arrested for allegedly stabbing his father to death last night.
Corey Eugene Roberts, 20, said, “Sorry,” when the judge asked him if he had anything to say during his first appearance in court this morning. Roberts will get a court-appointed attorney.
An assistant district attorney said in court that Wilmington Police found Roberts with the knife they believe he used to kill his father, Christopher Eugene Roberts, 52. The prosecutor said the father was trying to stop the younger Roberts from hurting someone else when he was stabbed.
Officers responded at about 6:43 p.m. Thursday to the family’s home at 503 Night Hawk Drive in the Pine Valley area of Wilmington. The victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police arrested Corey Roberts at the scene.
