Boat bumps into Johnnie Mercer’s Pier on Memorial Day after losing power
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A boat bumped into a Wrightsville Beach pier after losing power to one of its motors on Memorial Day.
Dispatchers say it happened around 5 p.m. at Johnnie Mercer’s Pier when a boat tried to anchor off-shore nearby.
They say their attempt to anchor caused an engine to fail, and then waves washed the boat closer to shore.
The StarNewsOnline.com reports the boat bumped into the pier multiple times before SEATOW helped get the boat out of shallow water.
They spoke with the pier’s owner, who says there is no damage to the pier.
The boat’s passengers were all able to get off safely, and no injuries were reported.
