Workers: DAK Americas closing Navassa plant
NAVASSA, NC (WWAY) — DAK Americas has called a news conference this afternoon, where it is expected the Charlotte-based company will announce it will close its Cape Fear Manufacturing Site in Navassa.
Several people close to the situation tell us employees found out this morning that the plant will close this fall.
In February the company said it was considering shutting all or part of the facility, which employs a total of 600 full-time and contract workers. At the time a company spokesman also said the review could also mean additional investment.
Navassa Mayor Eulis Willis said he had not heard about the news conference when we contacted him.
“I hope it’s good news,” Willis said.
Brunswick County Economic Development Director Jim Bradshaw said he did know what the announcement would be, but said he wouldn’t comment until after it’s made.
