Suspect from checkpoint shooting out of hospital, in jail
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A second suspect involved in a shot by officers at a DWI checkpoint earlier this month is out of the hospital and in jail.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says Antoine Levar Graham is now in jail under $1,021,000 bond. He faces ten counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, ten counts of AWDW on government official, flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony conspiracy to flee to elude, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Investigators say Graham and Jerry Melvin tried to drive away from a checkpoint in Leland June 14 when officers opened fire.
Seven deputies from Brunswick and New Hanover counties and a Leland Police officer are under investigation by the SBI for their roles in the shooting.
