Coast Guard returns from 43-day patrol
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Coast Guard Cutter Diligence returns to homeport tonight after a 43-day patrol in the Atlantic Ocean.
During the patrol, the Diligence conducted three vessel safety boardings, embarked 65 migrants after they attempted to illegally reach US soil and supported a long range MEDEVAC of an ill mariner 300 miles offshore.
“It has truly been an honor to sail with this dedicated crew,” said Dilligence Commander Douglas Goodwin. Commander Goodwin will turn over command of cutter Diligence to Commander Jeffrey Randall during a ceremony scheduled for July 18.
