Owner goes to extreme lengths to find missing dog
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An owner’s love for her missing dog has carried her the last six months and inspired her to go to great lengths to bring him home.
Homer, a 5-year-old pup went missing in Rocky Point after he was spooked by the noise of near-by fireworks.
Since January 1st, Susan Walsh has spent her days talking to strangers and spreading the word that her dog is missing.
“We know he is a survivor,” Walsh said.
Walsh says even though her extensive search has been emotionally draining and extremely time consuming, she cannot walk away.
“He’s very much part of our family. We don’t have children, so he is very much a child to us.”
The golden retriever mix has been part of her family since he showed up on her door-step years ago, with a fractured leg.
“One big vet bill later, we had a new pet,” she laughed.
To find her long-lost pet, Walsh set up three trail cameras in the woods. These cameras have actually captured pictures of the dog and so have neighbors.
“A guy who has cameras up in the area stopped by and said ‘I want you to take a look at something,’ and he pulls out this shot,” Walsh said. “This is obviously Homer.”
The first of two images Walsh has was taken in early February. The picture gave her hope and inspired her to hire a private investigator.
“He is getting hints of Homer’s smell here and there,” she said.
Walsh has put up hundreds of lost dog posters as well, which have also lead to tips of the dog’s whereabouts.
There have been up to 30 citings of Homer crossing Highway 210.
Walsh says there has been some good to come from this unfortunate situation. Through her search she has assisted two other pet owners find their missing dogs.
