BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A South Brunswick High School teacher is on administrative leave after being accused of not providing enough sustenance for poultry and turkeys used for educational research.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protective Services arrested Beke M. Lindsay, 61, of Southport. She’s charged with three counts of cruelty to animals but was released on $500 unsecured bond.

Lindsay has worked as an agriculture teacher for Brunswick County Schools since September of 2009. In a news release, the Brunswick County Schools superintendent Edward Pruden said the school is cooperating with the Sheriff’s Office in its investigation. He added that animal cruelty is an “aberration” that “will not be repeated.”
