Cape Fear Literacy Council celebrates helping another 500 students
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Literacy Council hosted its 4th Annual Literacy Luncheon today.
Almost 300 people came out for the event to celebrate all the organization does in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties.
Leaders say helping students learn to read not only has an impact on the community but also affects generations of people.
“When they make achievements, the achievements are not just for an individual, but they are generational. They take them back to their family and their children, their grandchildren,” board member Teresa Huffmon said. “In many of circumstances they could go on and be even more productive in the community.”
Last year the Cape Fear Literacy Council helped more than 500 students.
