Train, tractor-trailer collide in NC
HARRISBURG, N.C. — A passenger train has collided with a tractor-trailer in southern North Carolina, but officials say no injures have been reported.
Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Lt. James Bailey said Wednesday the crash occurred around 10 a.m. in Harrisburg, just east of Charlotte. He said the truck had been sitting on the tracks.
About a dozen people were on the Amtrak train headed from Raleigh to Charlotte. Bailey said none was injured, and the driver wasn’t in the truck during the crash.
Bailey said the tractor-trailer was carrying construction materials that spilled into the roadway. Diesel fuel leaked from the truck but posed no immediate threat to residents.
Officials at the scene are considering whether to file charges against the driver.
