Fit Minute – Cross Fit
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you want to push your body to the max, you might want to try Cross Fit. The weight-training and cardio combo can get you fit very fast if you’re up to the challenge.
Cross Fit is not for the faint of heart, body or mind.
“You don’t want to let yourself down. You don’t want to let other people down by stopping so it just forces you to go beyond your limits,” said Christine Dimeo, who’s been doing Cross Fit for about a year.
And, there’s really no limit for Dimeo when she’s working out at Port City Cross Fit in Wilmington.
“It just makes me do things that I would never do on my own,” Dimeo said.
“It’s just a totally different kind of gym experience,” said Keith Nelson, a personal trainer at Port City Cross Fit.
Nelson said Cross Fit combines elements of weight lifting, power lifting, gymnastics and cardio.
“We kind of put it together in a lot of different combinations and we vary it a lot,” Nelson said.
In fact, it’s different every day. Nelson said trainers come up with a new hour-long routine they post to their website. Nelson said it’s always a challenge yet it’s safe because trainers are there to make sure people are using the correct form.
And, Dimeo said it’s also very effective.
“I’ve kept a steady weight. I’m just really toned. I just feel better,” Dimeo said.
Nelson said he encourages people to do Cross Fit three to five times a week to really get to know the moves and see fast results.
