Using natural supplements to become less dependent of prescription drugs
Anyone who relies on prescription drugs for medical problems may be all too familiar with unwanted side effects, and the high cost of medication leaves many uneasy.
Some doctors in our area are prescribing natural supplements to their patients, in hopes of ending their dependence on prescription drugs.
It is enough to worry about remembering to take prescription medication every day. Tack on the cost, and it can really be a burden. That is why some area doctors are recommending a new medicine, called healthy living.
“I’m turning 66 next week, and I have to tell you, I’m feeling great, and that’s because, yes, I take three medications, but I also take supplements,” said Micki Jay.
Dr. Lawrence Linette of Southeastern Health Care said, “I would like to see people on the minimum number of medications that they have to be on.”
Dr. Linette said eating right is actually medication in and of itself. It is a preventative measure that can ward off diseases like diabetes and obesity. And it all begins with the green leafy stuff. “Go back to the basics. Fruits and vegetables, whole grains, unsaturated foods, those are the things we need to be talking about,” Dr. Linette said.
“As you become aware of the benefit they bring to your body, they become delicious,” added Jay.
Micki Jay was a dancer her whole life, and then ran into problems with cholesterol and weight gain. She turned to Dr. Linette, started eating healthier, and soon, her prescription drugs may be a distant memory. “I want to live a long time, want to see my grandkids get married, we all do!”
