School lockdowns ended, as search continues for suspect who ran near Mayfaire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a suspect who ran while they were trying to serve warrants, a spokesman says.

Sgt. Jerry Brewer referred further inquiries to Bob Becker, Resident Agent in Charge with the US Department of Homeland Security/Immigrations and Custom Enforcement. Agent Becker said he could not yet release more information on the suspect in custody or the one on the run.

Around 2:30 p.m., officers released a perimeter set up in a neighborhood behind the Harris Teeter in Mayfaire. Lockdowns at nearby schools were also ended.

Brewer said the two men worked at Landfall. He says the one who ran took off across Military Cutoff Road. So far investigators have not found him.
