Standoff ends after man surrenders to WPD
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say a standoff on French Road is over after a man threatening to kill himself surrendered to police.
WPD says it started aroun 9 a.m. and lasted about two hours with the Wilmington Police Department’s SWAT Unit and EMS standing by.
They evacuated at least home on the street.
The suspect’s wife, two children and a relative got out of the house safely. Neighbors say the man did not live at the home with them.
Police Negotiators convinced the man to put his weapon down and leave the home.
Police have taken the man to Cape Fear Memorial Hospital just a couple of blocks away for evaluation.
