RALEIGH — A Wisconsin-based manufacturing company plans to expand its western North Carolina plant by adding 40 jobs and investing $2 million.

Snap-on Inc. said Thursday it will consolidate its Massachusetts plant to create the new jobs at a plant in Murphy.

The company manufactures diagnostic tools. Its Murphy plant, about 60 miles south of Great Smokey Mountains National Park, specializes in making industrial power tools. It currently employs 178 workers.

The company received a $120,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. The grant is provided by local governments to attract new business projects.
