UPDATE: Missing plane found
DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WTVD) — Our sister station in Raleigh reports the plane emergency responders were searching for in Pender County was found in Duplin County.
A fire official told ABC11 that the plane was located after 6 p.m. just north of the Kenansville airport.
Crews in Pender County stopped their search for the plane around 5 p.m. Monday evening.
Officials say the plane left from Albert Ellis Airport in Jacksonville Sunday morning and was headed to Michigan.
Crews tried to pinpoint a signal given off by an emergency locator beacon which was picked up by satellites.
Investigators say the satellites that receive the signal are not completely accurate. They said they also had hits in Duplin County and one near Mount Olive.
Officials have not released the pilot’s name, but they say he is in the military and his family has been notified.
