Fit Minute – Weight training that’s fun and fast
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Weight training can be difficult if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing or don’t have a set routine. If you’ve always wanted to build muscle but don’t know where to start, there is a class for that.
Lifting weights is something Rebecca Flisher said she’s always loved to do.
“I used to before children kind of do the one muscle group every day,” Flisher said.
But, that became a bit tiresome for Flisher.
“Without having a trainer, you don’t switch it up as much,” Flisher said.
So, she decided to switch it up by taking Body Pump at O2 Fitness at Mayfaire Town Center in Wilmington.
“It’s been a really positive experience for me,” Flisher said.
Body Pump is weight training that’s set to music and that follows routines.
“You go from the legs and squats, chest, back, arms, shoulders and abdominals. It’s all pre-choreographed so you can go anywhere to find a Body Pump class and you should get the same great experience,” Ferree said.
Instructor Katie Ferree said that means participants won’t get tired of the class.
“Every three months they come out with something new,” Ferree said.
But, Ferree said that doesn’t mean the class doesn’t tire you out.
“You target everything; about 800 reps you’ll do. You fatigue the muscles through high reps and low weights and that’s where you get the lean muscle mass,” Ferree said.
Both Flisher and Ferree said they have much more lean muscle mass because of Body Pump.
“It shaped my body. It was more inches that were lost creating lean muscle so I wasn’t bulking up I was getting smaller and stronger,” Ferree said.
“You’re just more lean, you’re not bulking up as much and it’s more consistent throughout your whole body,” Flisher said.
Results that flisher said are as exciting as the class.
“I want to come and it’s fun and it’s a good way to meet people and listen to music and workout and have a good time,” Flisher said.
