NC officials say Medicaid billing progress made

Associated Press

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina health officials say more medical providers are getting the hang of a new Medicaid billing system after its rocky first few months in operation. But not all state lawmakers are convinced the NCTracks system has turned the corner.

Department of Health and Human Services chief information officer Joe Cooper addressed an oversight committee keeping tabs on NCTracks, which came online July 1.

Office managers and a hospital executive criticized the rollout at a similar legislative meeting last month. Cooper said Tuesday problems have been fixed or are being addressed, and one-on-one training has been expanded by the system’s vendor.

Sen. Tommy Tucker of Waxhaw says he’s getting more comfortable with NCTracks but colleague Martin Nesbitt of Asheville says there are still providers not getting timely reimbursed for services.
