More money going to Wilmington youth and convict programs

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council took steps Tuesday night to find long-term solutions to crime and gang violence.

Councilors agreed to collaborate with the non-profit, Community Enrichment Initiatives, to provide additional after-school programming for at-risk youth at the MLK Community Center.

They also approved using $50,000 from its savings account to fund the LINC organization.

“So those are things that this will kind of help us build capacity so that we can increase our program income so that we won’t have to come to the city that we are thankful for funds when we get in the red,” said Frankie Roberts, the LINC executive director.

LINC helps men and women who have been in prison transition from a life of crime by finding them shelter, clothes, and jobs.
