Scholar discusses mystery of Star of Bethlehem

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Gospel of Matthew claims a mysterious star appeared at the birth of Jesus.

Tonight at UNCW, a scholar is trying to explain the mystery of the Star of Bethlehem.

“What was the Star of Bethlehem? You hear so much about it, but what was it?” asked event organizer Putt Browning.

Browning is just one of the event organizers bringing the “Star of Bethlehem” discussion to the Port City. He says after seeing a video presentation on the mysterious star, he knew he needed to bring its message closer to home.

“I think a lot of people may view the Christmas story almost has a Hollywood production, and to me it just made it real,” Browning said.

Scholar Rick Larson says he uncovered the truth behind the star and will share his story tonight. He is not your average minister. In fact he’s a Texas law professor who has traveled the world talking about the star that led the Magi to the baby Jesus.

“He presents it as history,” Browning said of Larson’s presentation. “I think to me it just made it real. If I had to have just one word of why we are doing this, it’s real.”

Event organizers say this is more than just a discussion on religion. They say it is something that will change your outlook on the holiday season.

If you would like to check out the mystery surrounding the Star of Bethlehem tonight, the event is free of charge. Doors open at 6 p.m. The presentation starts at 7 p.m.
