World War Two group meets monthly

Video

Body

Wilmington takes its World War Two history seriously, and rightly so.

The people who made that history get together at the New Hanover County Senior Center once a month.

Kitty Maret was busy on the home front while the war raged overseas. As many remember where they were when the terrorist attacks took place on 9/11 or even where they were when JFK was shot. These people remember what they were doing on December 7th, 1941, the day Pearl Harbor was bombed, and their lives changed forever.

Most of the group was in their late teens or early 20’s back then; now they’re well into their 80’s.

Next generation military historian Peter Harrington is keeping their history alive with presentations like “Things You Didn’t Know About World War Two.”

Even these vets learned a thing or two at his session. But they have plenty of lessons to teach too, if we’ll take the time to listen.

To learn more about the World War Two group, you can contact John Nelson at 686-9960.
