Volunteers spend Christmas Eve morning delivering dinner to the needy
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — More than 100 volunteers spent their Christmas Eve morning at the Global River Church Administration Building disturbing and delivering home cooked meals to the needy.
“Share whatever you have, how ever small it is, or large. Share it,” said Joyce Hedgepeth.
Hedgepeth volunteered with her daughter and her great grandsons. She says she hopes today will resonate with the young boys long after Christmas is over.
“They need to know that after Christmas the abundance ceases but people still need help,” she said.
Pine Valley United Methodist Church cooked hundreds of meals this morning and then, with the help of the Cape Fear Volunteer Center, they were delivered all over New Hanover County.
“It is a big, fast, and furious operation,” said Cape Fear Volunteer Center’s executive director Annie Anthony.
A speedy operation that will feed about 700 people who might have other not had something special to say grace over.
As for the selfless people who made it all possible, they say giving back is just a reminder of the sweet the Christmas message truly is.
“It’s like the dessert after a good meal. This is truly the cherry on top of the ice cream sundae,” said Hedgepeth.
