Troopers: Car chase ends with arrest at suspect’s home
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man faces several charges this morning after troopers say he led them on a car chase that ended at his home.
Troopers say the chase started just before 10 p.m. when a trooper tried to pull over a 1995 Ford Thunderbird on Carolina Beach Road near St. Andrews Drive. That’s when they say the driver, Ricky Wallace, Jr., 21, led Tpr. B.R. Phillips down Raleigh and Williamson Streets before speeding down Shipyard Blvd. Phillips told the StarNews he clocked Wallace going 61 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Troopers say the chase only lasted about 10 minutes when Wallace stopped at his home on Calhoun Drive, where he was then arrested. Wallace faces several charges, including DWI and eluding arrest along with heroin charges.
Wallace is in the New Hanover County Jail under $5,000 bond.
The NC Department of Corrections website shows Wallace’s criminal record includes convictions for selling drugs, larceny and reckless driving. He got out of prison in April.
