Power outage leaves much of Brunswick Co. in cold
On this cold morning, much of Brunswick County is without power.
A Brunswick Electric Membership Cooperative spokesperson told WWAY power is out from Supply southward to the state line. She said it’s believed the problem started at the Prospect Transmission Substation near Supply and crews are working on it.
Brunswick County Schools Superintendent Katie McGee said the district believes there is enough heat in buildings to keep students at schools affected for now, and that a cold breakfast will be served at schools. Executive Director of Operations Steve Miley told WWAY the schools affected are Brunswick Academy, Supply Elementary, Virginia Williamson Elementary, Shallotte Middle, West Brunswick High, Union Elementary and Jessie May Monroe Elementary. Miley said the district will monitor the temperatures at the school. He said it’s unclear whether they will send students home, because most of them would just be going home to a cold house.
Also dispatch said to expect traffic back-ups through much of the county. Whenever traffic lights are out, treat intersections as four-way stops.
