3 workers from developmental center in Kinston
KINSTON, N.C. — Three workers at a state-owned developmental facility in North Carolina have been fired after an investigation into patient abuse.
The Kinston Free Press reported Thursday that the state Department of Health and Human Services began investigating the allegations Feb. 3 at Caswell Developmental Center in Kinston. The center provides care to individuals with mental retardation.
One health care technician was fired last month and two more were fired Monday. Department spokesman Mark Van Sciver said another employee has been cleared, while one employee’s status is pending.
The acting director of the center, Kate Snodgrass, said she couldn’t release details of the investigation but said the center regrets what happened.
The center has more than 1,600 employees who serve about 430 people who live at the center.
