Winter weather spills into North Carolina

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A cold front will swing through the Carolinas Tuesday afternoon, and it drops temperatures significantly along the way. Temperatures climb to the 60's by lunchtime, and plummet to the 30's after sunset. Moisture associated with this system becomes available this evening and overnight, and will likely meet up with bitterly cold air in time to squeeze out a few light snow showers.

At this point, the threat for any wintry precipitation stays mainly North of our viewing area. However, a light dusting of snow is possible from Jacksonville to Clinton to Lumberton.

Notice how Winter Weather Advisories and Warnings leave most of Southeastern, North Carolina untouched.

Bitterly cold air arrives behind this front for Wednesday. High temperatures will likely sit around the freezing mark, with lows in the 20's and teens further inland. Strong winds will help these already chilly temperatures feel even colder through much of Wednesday.
