Winter Storm Watch in effect Tuesday and Wednesday
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Robeson, Bladen, Columbus, Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties starting Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon.
A pleasant weekend with temps in the 50’s will preceed an even warmer Monday with highs in the 60’s. But, an arctic cold front approaches from the West and that will change our weather dramatically come Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lots of cold air will be in place in wake of the arctic cold front, right as it stalls offshore. Waves of low pressure will ride up this front like cars on a highway. That means a lot of moisture will be available starting Tuesday afternoon. With cold air already in place, precipitation will likely fall as snow and possibly sleet in Southeastern North Carolina beginning Tuesday afternoon and lingering into Wednesday night.
Accumulation of 3″ plus is possible at this point. Bridges may become icy and dangerous since those surfaces will cool much faster than the ground.
Stay with WWAY and the StormTrack 3 Weather Team for continuing developments and forecasts as the system approaches.
