Worst of wintry mix over
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for southeastern NC through 6 pm Wednesday, and for good reason.
Precipitation starting falling as freezing drizzle and sleet along the beaches early Tuesday, and coated the ground by Tuesday evening. Precipitation fell mainly as snow further inland, and will shut off first during the morning hours Wednesday. A changeover to snow flurries will not last long at the beaches, clearing up by afternoon.
Accumulations of a half to 2 inches of snow/sleet have been reported in coastal counties, with greater accumulations further inland. Freezing temperatures will keep whatever is on the ground now, there through Thursday. Temperatures don't warm up until Friday. That's when you can expect the big thaw. Until then, drive carefully!
Stay with WWAY and the StormTrack 3 Weather Team for continuing developments as the system approaches. Follow updates via Facebook and Twitter or download our StormTrack 3 mobile app to keep up on the go.
