Pender superintendent says make-up day decision a tough one
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Some answers today about why Pender County Schools will make-up some snow days during Spring Break, while other school districts have avoided cutting into that vacation time.
Superintendent Terri Cobb says the school board looked at several different options but decided to make up days instead of hours. She says it is a difficult task trying to find a solution that works for all families.
“They looked at everything from just everything from athletics to after school tutoring to jobs for students, instructional schedule, increasing hours for hourly staff,” Cobb said. “I really don’t believe the decision was made around one single factor.”
Folks we spoke with were concerned about vacation plans.
Cobb says the district encourages parents to work with the schools, because they do have an attendance policy.
No members of the school board have returned our calls and e-mails for comment.
