Cold weather means higher NC home heating prices

CHARLOTTE, N. (AP) — The cold weather that came with the recent snow in North Carolina will mean higher heating bills.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Piedmont Natural Gas spokesman David Trusty says many customers are likely to see increases in their bills. Trusty says the company had its highest single single-day gas delivery last month.

The company has reduced its rates slightly because the price of natural gas has been declining.

A Duke Energy spokeswoman said the company does not have its January usage figures compiled. But Duke says the weather helped boost its revenue and profits in the fourth quarter of the year.

Propane used by some rural residents is more expensive. The average price for a gallon of propane was $4.15 last week, compared with $3.18 last month.
