CFCC celebrates construction milestone for fine arts building

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College celebrated a construction milestone this morning as the school’s new Humanities & Fine Arts Center begins to take shape in downtown Wilmington.

Students, staff and community members joined together to commemorate the occasion as crews lowered a massive piece of concrete into place at the construction site at the corner of Second and Hanover streets.

School leaders say they are excited to see all the hard work and planning finally coming together. CFCC President Dr. Ted Spring adds that it was nice to see so many community members come out to show their support.

“It’s a wonderful addition to the community,” Dr. Spring said. “It’s a 159,000 square foot, 44 million dollar building that will provide access to our students to really do some things they have not been able to do in some of our other facilities over the years,” he said.

Before the ceremony, guests signed a wall to commemorate the big occasion and become a part of history. Dr. Spring says CFCC hopes to open the new facility next spring.
