Man pleads guilty to stabbing girlfriend at hospital

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man who admitted earlier this year to stabbing his girlfriend at New Hanover Regional Medical Center pleaded guilty today to multiple crimes.

Josef Anthony Randolph, 29, admitted to two counts of assault on medical responders, a secret assault on his 4-month-old daughter as well as an assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

A judge sentenced Randolph to five to seven years in prison followed by an additional 25-42 month suspended sentence, which will require that Randolph be on 36 months of supervised probation. The judge also ordered Randolph be placed in an inpatient rehab program that addresses substance abuse and mental health related issues, if he is eligible at the time of his release from prison.

In April the victim was visiting her mother at the hospital. She was carrying her daughter when Randolph, who is the child’s father, stabbed her in the throat in a hallway. The child was not injured.
