Pender Co. company earns top honor for commitment to worker safety
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The NC Department of Labor awarded a Pender County company with a top honor today.
Wilmington Box Company received the SHARP award for its safety and health conditions for workers.
Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry says it’s so important to keep all workers safe, so at the end of the day they can say, “Honey, I’m home.”
“Once they earn this award, it’s like a milestone on a long journey,” Berry said. “It doesn’t stop them from continually improving the safety and the health of the people in their facility.”
Wilmington Box Company says it has been working two years to get this award, which fewer than 150 north carolina businesses have received.
Berry says North Carolina leads the nation in the number of SHARP sites.
The SHARP award is only given to businesses who have asked the DOL/OSHA division to inspect their workplace for safety and health issues in a voluntary inspection program and who have passed OSHA’s stringent requirements.
