BASF’s Wilmington plant prepares to close its doors

Body

At the end of the month BASF’s Wilmington plant will close its doors. Thirty-three jobs will be eliminated when the company closes its vitamin plant on the March 31st.

The plant is located on the Pender/New Hanover county line. The facility makes vitamin c supplements.

Site manager, Hector Juarez, said producing the supplements is simply too expensive. “We could not sustain the raw material at a low enough cost and our customers were not willing to pay enough for our products.”

BASF told employees about the shutdown in December and hired a firm to help the workers find new jobs.

Some of the employees will transfer to other BASF locations.
