NC authorities capture inmate who fled courthouse
COLUMBUS — Authorities have captured a North Carolina inmate who fled from a courthouse before a sentencing hearing last week.
State Department of Correction officials said Stephen Taylor was apprehended Friday morning at a home in Columbus, about 40 miles south of Asheville.
The 43-year-old Taylor ran from the Polk County courthouse March 11, where he was to be sentenced as a habitual felon. He was already serving an 18-month sentence at the Lumberton Correctional Institution for speeding to elude arrest and failure to heed lights and siren.
Officials said Taylor has been transported to the Marion Correctional Institution, and will be back in court on Friday.
