Investigation continues into Thursday fire at Market St. business
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Investigators say a fire that destroyed a Wilmington business Thursday afternoon started in a storage unit, according to the Wilmington Fire Department.
Firefighters estimate about $500,000 worth of damage to the building and contents at Dorothy’s Ruffled Originals at 6217 Market St.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but owner Dorothy Noe says she thinks it was arson.
A joint task force, consisting of representatives from the Wilmington Police and Fire Departments, State Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are conducting follow-up interviews. WFD says such a group approach is common with a large-dollar loss involving a commercial building.
