UNC fraternity gets 1 year of probation
CHAPEL HILL, NC (AP) — A fraternity at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill has been placed on probation for a year after an investigation of alcohol-related problems involving new members.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that Chi Phi Fraternity has been ordered to hire a resident adviser.
Chi Phi was suspended in November during the investigation of alcohol violations and inappropriate new member activities. The chapter’s meetings, social events and other activities were canceled.
Michael Azarian with the national Chi Phi Fraternity organization said the corrective steps will ensure that the Chapel Hill chapter complies with national standards and values.
The Chapel Hill chapter has about 55 members.
A university spokesman said the school has “zero tolerance” for activities that put students in danger.
