Castle Street planning block party Saturday

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — The Castle Street Business Alliance is excited to celebrate the joint anniversaries of two long time tenants and new opening of another. On April 5th the alliance will be hosting the Castle Street Block Party for the 10th anniversary of Jester’s Café (607 Castle Street), the 5th Anniversary of Wilmington Wine (605 Castle Street), and the grand opening of every good thing Artisan Gallery (603 Castle Street).

Castle Street has seen a rebirth after the efforts of Michael Moore and Charles Adams, two downtown antique store owners, moved their shops to the street in 2004. Followed by many others, the street developed into the Castle Street Arts & Antique District. More recently, 2012 brought the opening of acclaimed Rx Restaurant and Anvil & Ink Tattoo Shop & Art Gallery followed in 2013 by the relocation of Gravity Records to the district and new businesses Luna Caffé, Urban Revival, Just Sew and Elsewhere Salon. Wilmington Wine owner, Chrissy Bonney, remarked “The diversification of the businesses, both new and old, in our district has really grown the street into a unique borough of downtown with its own character and nuances. The business owners and neighborhood regulars are a close-knit group which only adds to the friendly and welcoming vibe of the street.”

The weekend will be kicked off by the Cape Fear Garden Club’s Annual Plant An Azalea Week ceremonial planting Thursday, April 3rd at 10am at the base of the street sculpture on the corner of 6th & Castle. This year’s honorary azalea will planted in memory of Dolly Pearson, lifelong Castle Street supporter, Wilmington activist, and gardening enthusiast who passed away at the age of 102 this year. Afterward Urban Revival (606 Castle St.) will be hosting a pop-up shop for Second Skin Vintage Clothing and custom hat Milner Peggy Anderson for the weekend and Wilmington Wine will have mimosas on special.

Saturday will be a street wide celebration from 10-6pm with live music, Drift Mobile Boutique, and discounts and giveaways at all of the district’s stores. Jester’s Café will be covering the tab for one randomly drawn table each hour from 9:30-2:30. Wilmington Wine will be giving away a private wine tasting for ten from a raffle of all customers throughout the day, and every good thing Artisan Gallery will be rewarding a gift basket to one lucky visitor during the event. Live music includes Perry Smith, Freequinc, and Stray Local. The event is asking the public to please bring a canned good donation for local charity Nourish NC to help feed children in need in New Hanover County.

New business every good thing Artisan Gallery, owned by Kathy Huber, will provide a beautiful and unique space for displaying and selling all types of art, with an emphasis on allowing new artists the opportunity to showcase their work. The gallery will ultimately give back to the community through a scholarship program.
