Looking to save money and still get out of the house this weekend? UNCW’s 27th Annual Jazz Fest is this weekend at Beckwith Recital Hall. It includes three nights of concerts by UNCW faculty, students and visiting artists. It begins Thursday night. Each performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are five dollars or free for UNCW students.
Music and love fills the air across town. Make sure you reserve your seat for Wilmington’s Big Greek Wedding at Thalian Hall. Local community leaders will suit up for the affair. A Greek buffet, bar, music and dancing are part of the fun. Tickets are 75 dollars and all proceeds benefit Phoenix Employment Ministry. First impressions mean everything. If you want to dress for success do not miss a fashion show Friday afternoon at UNCW. Experts will show you how to dress for the job you want. It takes place at Warwick Center Ballroom at 12:15 p.m. The event is free.
If you are good with knitting needles and yarn you are invited to help put your skills to good use. Saturday, Project Linus is sponsoring a Blanket Day. Bring your sewing machine, knitting needles and crochet hooks to help make blankets. Project Linus gives the blankets to hospitals, police officers and fire fighters for children who are neglected or abused. It is from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Gym 612 S. College Road.
The effort to fight cancer spans across four counties Saturday. The American Cancer Society Hope Motorcycle Run begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Harley-Davidson store in Shallotte. The ride will end in Jacksonville. If you pre-register, it is twenty dollars per driver, five bucks for a rider. The day off cost jumps to 25 dollars.
If you missed your prom, or just want a do-over, you have your chance Saturday night. An ALS Prom Party benefit is happening at Kefi’s in Wilmington. The party starts at 9:00 p.m. and ends at midnight, just in time for curfew. Advanced tickets are $15 a person or $25 a couple. Proceeds benefit the Wilmington Walk to Defeat ALS.
