Screen Gems to resume tours this weekend after three-year hiatus

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — While the future of North Carolina’s film industry is still up in the air as lawmakers decide what to do about tax incentives that fuel the business, fans can get a behind-the-scenes look at Hollywood East again starting this weekend.

EUE/Screen Gems Studios announced today it will resume tours at its studios on N. 23rd St. starting Saturday. Screen Gems stopped tours in 2011 after “One Tree Hill” wrapped up production. Before that the tours had been offered for 15 years, the studio says.

According to a news release, guests will get an insider’s look at the largest studio complex east of California as they walk the 10-stage lot. The tour will include a behind-the-scenes look at the CBS series “Under the Dome,” which is shooting its second season. Visitors will also see a visual history of the North Carolina film and television industry in the screening theater.

Tours are Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. weather permitting throughout the summer. Tours will continue throughout 2014 and beyond, the studio says. The cost is $12 for adults; $10 for students and military personnel with an ID; $5 for children under 12. Only cash is accepted.
