NHSO, WPD to move gang, housing, downtown units under same roof
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and Wilmington Police Department are coming together.
The former Shaw Speaks building will now serve as the new home for each department’s gang, housing and downtown units. It will also be the new home for Elements, which is a youth violence intervention program.
Sheriff Ed McMahon says it’s important to have the officers and deputies together.
“They have to be side by side, sharing offices, sharing information, talking on a continual basis, ’cause if we don’t have the relationship and the bond, how can we expect to go out there united and fight this crime problem?” McMahon said.
