The owners of the Bald Head Island ferry that went aground near Southport in December have filed a motion in federal court that seeks to have any claims against them heard in one forum.

If the action, called a complaint, is OK’d by the court, all claims would be heard by the same U.S. District Court judge in Wilmington – rather than filed separately over a period of time – said Geoffrey Losee, partner in Rountree Losee. The Wilmington law firm represents owner Bald Head Island Transportation Inc. and manager Bald Head Island Limited LLC.

The complaint, which Losee described as a common course of action under maritime law, also seeks exoneration from or limitation of liability by the vessel’s owners.
