Gov. McCrory tours eastern NC tornado damage
CHOCOWINITY, N.C. (AP)– Gov. Pat McCrory is heading to eastern North Carolina to tour areas damaged by at least seven tornados that struck the state on Friday.
McCrory will be joined by other officials first in Beaufort County, where at noon Sunday he will tour areas around Chocowinity. Authorities say a tornado with winds up to 150 mph injured more than a dozen people and destroyed or heavily damaged 200 businesses.
McCrory will then head across the Albemarle Sound to Chowan County, where he will see the damage in Edenton from a tornado forecasters say had maximum winds of around 125 mph. That tornado also was one of two twisters Friday to damage neighborhoods around Elizabeth City.
No deaths were reported from the storms.
