Hamilton, Iler, Davis sponsor bill to keep NC film incentives from ending

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Three area lawmakers have sponsored a bill in the North Carolina House of Representatives that would keep the state’s tax incentives for film projects from ending.

HB 1142 would eliminate what’s known as the sunset date from the film incentives. Currently the incentives are set to run out at the end of the year. The bill also proposes increasing the necessary threshold for spending by a project from $250,000 to $300,000 to qualify for a 25-percent tax rebate from the state.

The bill has bipartisan support from the local delegation. Its primary sponsors include Susi Hamilton, a Democrat who represents part of New Hanover and Brunswick counties, along with Republicans Frank Iler (Brunswick County) Ted Davis (New Hanover County). Democrat Becky Carney of Mecklenburg County is also among the bill’s primary sponsors.
